THE DIGEST

Delco’s Real Estate Market is on Fire: Homes Selling at Lightning Speed

The real estate market in Delaware County is hotter than ever, with homes in communities like Springfield, Aston, Prospect Park, and Wallingford flying off the market in just 8 to 12 days, even with home prices up 7.1% compared to last year (according to Redfin). With inventory shortages and high competition, buyers are snapping up homes faster than you can say "sold," often above asking price. If you're house hunting in Delco, be ready to move fast—because these properties certainly are! See the full list of zip codes where homes are selling the fastest at the Philadelphia Business Journal ($$)

Celebrate a Local Hero: Oldest WWII Veteran’s Birthday Bash at Mission BBQ

Come out and honor Pennsylvania's oldest decorated living veteran, WWII Corporal Joseph Passaretti of Collingdale, at Mission BBQ in Springfield on Saturday, August 10th! Our American hero arrives at 11:30 a.m., and after the National Anthem at noon, we’ll sing Happy Birthday to this incredible treasure. Let’s show up in force to give this 102-year-old veteran the appreciation he truly deserves! Spread the word and be part of this special celebration!

Delco’s Golf Courses Swing into the Spotlight

You may not realize it, but Delco could be considered a golfer’s paradise! According to Golfweek, Pennsylvania is home to several top ranked golf courses! The Golf Course at Glen Mills landed third among public courses, while Merion Golf Club’s East Course in Haverford Township snagged second among privates, and seventh nationwide! Not to be outdone, Aronimink in Newtown Square and Rolling Green in Springfield also scored high marks, solidifying Delco as a golfer’s dream destination.

Let’s also not forget, as we highlighted in Monday’s edition of the newsletter, Cobbs Creek is undergoing a $150 million project through Tiger Woods’ company to bring the course back to life.

Lastly, golf fans, mark your calendars, because the PGA also loves Delco:

⛳ Merion is the future site of the 2026 U.S. Amateur and 2030 U.S. Open
⛳ Aronimink will host its second PGA Championship in May 2026

DON’T FORGET

HBO is filming tonight for their upcoming series, Task. Between 7 pm to 1am there will be rolling lane closures between Campus Boulevard and Bishop Hollow Road in Newtown Township.

Vote for the Best Delco Town. 94WIP is taking their show on the road with the "Tour de Delco," a journey through Delaware County to celebrate sports, traditions, and all things Delco pride. Do you think your town is the top spot in the county? Submit your story here!

LOCAL BUSINESS

Main Street Makeover: Chester Pike’s Revival in the Works

Six Delco boroughs along Chester Pike are eyeing a major glow-up as they seek a Keystone Communities main street designation. This could bring dedicated funding and development to uplift small businesses, revitalize the corridor, and transform the area into a vibrant destination. With a $25,000 investment matched by a state grant, local leaders are pushing for smarter infrastructure and community-friendly spaces, aiming to turn Chester Pike into a bustling hub that truly reflects the charm of its surrounding neighborhoods.

CIVIC NEWS

Aqua’s Rate Hike: Speak Now or Pay More Later

Heads up, Delco! Aqua is looking to raise service rates by a whopping $126.7 million annually, which could bump up your water bill by $16.10/month and wastewater by $14.92/month. The Public Utility Commission (PUC) is hosting public input hearings to hear what you have to say. The closest in-person hearings are on August 7 at Delaware County Community College, and telephonic hearings will follow on August 14. Make sure to pre-register by August 13 if you want your voice heard!

Newtown Township Scores Big with $283K Grant for Traffic Safety

Great news for Newtown Township drivers and pedestrians: Rep. Lisa Borowski and Sen. Tim Kearney announced a $283,946 state grant to upgrade vehicle detection technology at five key intersections, including busy spots along West Chester Pike and Route 252. This funding, from PennDOT’s Green Light-Go program, means smarter traffic signals, less congestion, and safer roads. Thanks to this grant, Newtown can stretch its budget further, making the roads safer and smoother for everyone.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

I still remain glued to the TV watching the Olympics. But you may want to get off the couch for some of these upcoming events in, and around, Delco.
