THE DIGEST

National Night Out: A Community Bash with a Purpose

Delco neighborhoods are gearing up for a night of fun and community bonding at this year’s National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6. The event, now in its 41st year, is all about bringing locals together with law enforcement to build safer, more connected communities.

What’s in store? We’ve got live demos, music, emergency equipment displays, and a whole lot of family-friendly activities. It's a chance to meet the people keeping your neighborhood safe and enjoy a summer evening with your community.

There are events happening all across Delco. Here’s a list.

Road Closure Alert - The Hulk is in Delco

Guess what, folks? The Hulk—uh, I mean, Mark Ruffalo—is back in town! As we reported last week, the upcoming HBO crime drama Task has been filming off and on in our neck of the woods for the past year.

Well, this is the week when they will be back in Delco, which means celebrity sightings and road closures.

Here’s where you need to avoid unless you plan on Hulk-smashing your way through traffic:

Gradyville Road: Aug. 6 and Aug. 7, 7 a.m. to 1 a.m., will be closed and detoured between Delchester and Providence roads in Edgmont Township. Local access will be maintained up to the work zone.

West Chester Pike: Aug. 6 and Aug. 7, 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., rolling lane closures between Campus Boulevard and Bishop Hollow Road in Newtown Township.

Can Mikey Miss Revive 97.5?

This one is for you sports talk fans. After months of will-he-or-won't-he, Mike Missanelli’s return to 97.5 the Fanatic is official. The 68-year-old radio veteran, who left the station two years ago abruptly, is set to take over the 10am-2pm midday slot alongside Bill Colarulo starting mid-August.

Why does this matter? Well, 97.5 is in a bit of a rut, with ratings lagging behind their rival, 94 WIP. Bringing back Mikey Miss, who consistently pulled solid numbers in the Nielsen ratings, feels like a move to inject some much-needed energy into the station. The Fanatic needs a win, and they’re betting that Missanelli is the guy to deliver it. Check out Crossing Broad for more insights about this move.

Don’t Forget to Vote: What’s the Best Delco Town?

As a friendly nudge, don’t forget to show your love for your town.

94WIP is taking their show on the road with the "Tour de Delco," a journey through Delaware County to celebrate sports, traditions, and all things Delco pride.

Do you think your town is the top spot in the county? Prove it!

Submit your town’s story, rally your neighbors, and show WIP why your community deserves to be the ultimate stop on their tour.

Cobbs Creek Golf Course Nears Its Revival with New GM at the Helm

The Cobbs Creek Golf Course is on the brink of a major revival, with Christopher Parker stepping in as the new general manager (Interview with Chris Parker is at 15:34 of the linked video). This $150 million project is bringing the course back to life with exciting new features like a TGR Learning Lab and a short course designed by Tiger Woods’ company.

For someone who practically lived on this course during high school as p art of the UDHS golf team, while also working summers at the City Line Sports Center, it’s incredibly exciting to see Cobbs Creek getting new life.

What do you think about a Hey Delco Open at the new Cobbs Creek? Stay tuned!

Here’s a complete breakdown of the phased timeline for opening the learning lab, short course, and complete Olde Course.

Delco's Own Allie Wilson: So Close

Wallingford native and Strath Haven grad, Allie Wilson, just missed advancing to the semi-finals in the women’s 800m at the Paris Olympics by a nanosecond in her repechage round. But hey, making it this far is no small feat! Delco couldn’t be prouder of its Olympic athlete as she continues to inspire us all with her journey on the world’s biggest stage.

Olympic Medal Count

Philadelphia Phillies (66-45)

It’s been a rough week for the Fightins. But on Sunday, the Phillies finally snapped their 6 game losing streak, as Bryce Harper had a 3-hit day, including a home-run, to snap his own 1-27 slump.
