THE DIGEST
Bryce Harper Continues to Cement Philly Legend Status with Wawa-Themed Cleats and Headband
Bryce Harper, already a beloved figure in the city for both his MVP-level play and Phanatic gear, took his Philly pride to the next level by rocking Wawa-themed cleats and a headband during Saturday’s game. The custom kicks featured the iconic “Gottahava Wawa” slogan—cleverly tweaked to “Gottahavea Harper.” Sure, the Phillies might’ve lost 8-0, but Harper’s Wawa drip earned him extra points with the hometown crowd. Bryce doesn’t miss!
Two Meteor Showers Are Set to Dazzle This Week
Grab your blankets and cocoa—this week’s night sky is putting on a double feature you won't want to miss. The Southern Delta Aquarids and Alpha Capricornids meteor showers are peaking, lighting up the southern sky with bright, streaking meteors. And just for fun, the Perseids are warming up for their big show later in August. Best viewing times? After midnight, when the skies are dark and clear.
Pro tip: Leave the telescope behind; all you need are your eyes and a cozy spot to enjoy the celestial fireworks.
Filming (and Road Closure) Alert: Mark Ruffalo is Back in Town
As you may know, the upcoming HBO crime drama Task has been filming off-and-on in our neck of the woods for the past year. Well, they are back in town, and HBO is shutting down some roads for filming. Here’s what we know:
Gradyville Road: Aug. 6 and Aug. 7, 7 a.m. to 1 a.m., will be closed and detoured between Delchester and Providence roads in Edgmont Township. Local access will be maintained up to the work zone.
West Chester Pike: Aug. 6 and Aug. 7, 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., rolling lane closures between Campus Boulevard and Bishop Hollow Road in Newtown Township.

LOCAL BUSINESS

End of an Era: Kyj’s Bakery to Close After 70 Years in Chester and Brookhaven
Say goodbye to a Delaware County institution—Kyj’s Bakery is hanging up its aprons after seven decades of serving up iconic treats like strawberry shortcake and perogies. Founded by Ukrainian immigrants in 1954, the beloved bakery is closing because the current owners are retiring, with no next generation to take over (their kids have pursued other careers). As the ovens cool down for good this weekend, loyal customers are flocking for one last taste. It’s the end of a delicious chapter, but the legacy of Kyj’s will linger long after the last cake is sold. ($)
National IPA Day is Tomorrow
Hop heads, rejoice! It’s National IPA Day tomorrow, which is the perfect excuse to raise a frosty pint of India Pale Ale. Celebrated on the first Thursday of August, this day pays homage to the iconic brew that started as a clever way to keep beer fresh on long voyages to India back in the 1700s. Whether you’re into the bold bitterness or the crisp finish, there’s an IPA out there for everyone. So, grab your friends, hit up your favorite local brewery,
Make sure you follow us on Instagram and Facebook, as we post about local deals/specials as they are released by breweries and bars around town.
Wolf’s Superior Sandwiches is Coming to Havertown
The Gritty: A mix of Ribeye Steak and Habbersett Scrapple, Caramelized Onions, Spicy Ketchup, and American Cheese Sauce
Wolf's Superior Sandwiches, the self proclaimed Kings of Creativity, is opening a second location in Havertown. The original location in Aston has gained a loyal following for its stacked-to-the-max, unique sandwich combinations.
The Hey Delco fam has not indulged in one of their sandwiches yet, however, after their most recent Instagram post about their ‘Gritty’ sandwich, which is a SCRAPPLE CHEESESTEAK, I know where we will be having lunch tomorrow.
We’ll keep you updated on the official opening of their Havertown location.
Delco Couple Creates Inclusive Art Studio for Children of All Abilities
In Malvern, Jennifer Briddes and Bonnie Stritzinger, a Delaware County couple, have transformed their art studio, A Flick of the Wrist, into a haven for children of all abilities. The studio offers a welcoming environment where creativity thrives, particularly for children with autism and ADHD. Inspired by their son Xander, who has autism, the couple hosts sensory-friendly classes and a unique blacklight room, designed to provide a calming and inclusive space. Their mission is to make art accessible to everyone, with plans to expand their concept nationwide, ensuring that every child has a place to feel safe and express themselves.
