THE DIGEST

The ‘Delco Shack’ Gets New Life🏠

The iconic ‘Delco Shack’ near the Springfield Mall has a new owner—Realtor Joe Vaccone. Bought for $150,000, the tiny 17x17-foot building has no running water or sewage, but is a Delco staple and a prime location for someone looking to use it as their own personal billboard. ($$) Vaccone plans to use the Shack, a social media favorite with the ‘Meanwhile in Delco’ Facebook group, as a unique advertising spot, flying both the American and Delco flags. While it might become an office or storage, its real value is in its legendary status in Delco lore.

Fun fact: As seen in the image above, The Shack recently got a fresh coat of spray paint for its role in Delco: The Movie, causing quite a stir, even drawing in the Springfield Police!

Oakwell Estate Saved by Media’s Natural Lands 🌳

The historic Oakwell estate in Lower Merion, originally slated for demolition to make way for school athletic fields, has been saved. After years of community protests and legal battles, the Lower Merion School Board voted to sell the 13-acre property to Media’s Natural Lands for $12.9 million. This decision preserves the estate’s rich history and arboretum, with plans to integrate it into the nearby Stoneleigh public garden. The outcome is a victory for local preservationists and a relief for neighbors.

Media Makes the Top 50 🏆

In a move that’ll surprise absolutely no one in Delco, Money magazine has finally recognized what we’ve known all along—Media is one of the 50 best places to live in the U.S. for 2024. With its walkable streets, killer restaurant scene, and weekly ‘Dining Under the Stars,’ Media’s got that perfect mix of small-town charm and big-city perks. Oh, and for those keeping track, Lancaster snagged a spot in the top 50 as well.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles (2-1) wrapped up their preseason on Saturday with a 26-3 loss to the Vikings, but the real story is who didn’t play—none of the starting offensive lineup saw the field in any of the three games. It's a gamble: keeping stars like Jalen Hurts, Saquan Barkley, Devonta Smith, and A.J. Brown injury-free while risking rust come the regular season.

For week 1, the Birds head to Brazil to face the Packers, who many consider Super Bowl contenders. For a deeper dive into which players' stocks are up or down after the final game, check out NBC Sports Philly here.

⚠️ Remember, the week 1 game in Brazil is on Friday, Sept 6 @ 8:15 PM ⚠️
