THE BIG STORY
Did the Hoagie Originate in Delco?
There are many mysteries in the world: Where is the lost city of Atlantis? How were the pyramids built? How was Stonehenge created?
Well, we Delconians have our own mystery: Where did the hoagie originate?
There are still many theories about how the hoagie got it’s name. But the answer may lie with the DiCostanza family of Chester, who claim they birthed this beloved sandwich in the 1920s. The story goes that Mama DiCostanza combined cold cuts, cheese, and peppers on a long roll for shipyard workers at Hog Island, who soon dubbed it the "hoagie."
And yes, this legendary creation can still be savored at DiCostanza’s Deli in Boothwyn. Unravel the tasty origins of our local culinary treasure. Read the full story here.

We’ve got some good news: $63 million has been pledged to revamp the The Blue Route. The bad news: it means lane closures and delays for you this week. One of Delco’s most beloved traffic nightmares is getting a makeover. The project includes resurfacing, bridge repairs, and safety enhancements. Expect snarls and headaches from the Mid-County Interchange down to the I-95 junction. Key areas to avoid? Try West Conshohocken to MacDade Boulevard, unless sitting in gridlock is your thing. Plan your escape routes now, folks! Read the full story here.
Darby Police Officers Honored for Heroic Rescue
Darby Borough Police Officers Terrell Lee and Shain McCaughey were honored for their swift action in rescuing a man who was seriously injured in a landscaping accident on Greenway Avenue. On June 19, the officers responded to a call about a man whose leg was severed by a stump grinder. Officer Lee applied a tourniquet while Officer McCaughey bandaged the wound, actions that doctors say saved the man's life. Their bravery was recognized in a ceremony last week, celebrating their quick thinking and heroism. Kudos to these local heroes! Read the full story here.
Shoutout to Our Heroic Riders!
