Episcopal Academy Grad Nick Mead to Carry U.S. Flag at Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony
Nick Mead, the Episcopal Academy alum who just helped secure the first U.S. gold in men’s coxless four rowing since 1960, has been chosen to carry the American flag at the Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony. Mead, a native of Stratford, Tredyfferin Twp., was selected by his fellow athletes for this historic honor—marking the first time a rower has ever been a U.S. flagbearer. Alongside swimming legend Katie Ledecky, Mead will lead Team USA out of the Stade de France on August 11, wrapping up what has been a dream Olympic experience for the gold medalist.
And Mead isn’t the only local star shining in Paris—As we wrote about last week, Delco athletes have made their mark across various events. Here’s a full update on how they, along with the rest of the PA Olympians, have fared.
Crozer Health Set for a Major Comeback as a Non-Profit Once Again
After years of financial turbulence and a controversial for-profit takeover, Crozer Health is poised for a fresh start. Once a vital nonprofit serving Delaware County, Crozer was sold to Prospect Medical Holdings in 2016, only to face declining admissions, crippling debt, and the closure of key services. Prospect recently sought a hefty taxpayer bailout to offload the struggling health system, but that idea was quickly shot down.
Now, a new deal with CHA Partners, a New Jersey real estate firm, could bring Crozer back to its nonprofit roots. While this brings a glimmer of hope, critical EMS and trauma services remain in limbo as the sale navigates regulatory hurdles.

Nick Foles Hangs Up the Cleats: Philly’s Super Bowl Hero Bids Farewell
Nick Foles, the man who delivered Philly its first Super Bowl victory, is calling it a career at 35. After an 11-season rollercoaster, Foles will officially retire as an Eagle, solidifying his legendary status in the City of Brotherly Love. While his recent stint with the Colts didn’t exactly set the world on fire, his 2017 postseason heroics—including outdueling Tom Brady—are what we’ll remember. Foles may be done with football, but his legacy in Philly? Unshakeable.

With summer hours in place, it’s time to satisfy that sweet tooth and support a cherished Delco institution. And don’t worry, the full menu will be back in action by fall.

Council Rock Newtown Little League: One Win Away from Williamsport Glory
Our neighbors in Bucks County, Council Rock Newtown Little League, are just one win away from heading to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. After dominating their way through the regional tournament, this team is now on the cusp of representing the Mid-Atlantic region on one of the biggest stages in youth sports.
It's always exciting to see a local Pennsylvania team so close to the spotlight, and we'll be cheering them on as they aim for victory in Friday's championship game.
Delco league Baseball Finals: Upper Darby has taken a 2-0 lead over Aston Valley and look to win their their second Delco League title in franchise history. Upper Darby will look to close this series out tonight at O’Hara in Game 3.
WEATHER
Brace yourself, Delco—today’s weather is going to be a wild ride. The remnants of Tropical Storm Debby are rolling into the area, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and even the possibility of tornadoes. Torrential downpours and thunderstorms are likely throughout the day and into the night. Flash flooding and power outages are a real concern, so keep an eye on the sky and stay safe out there.
