Weather Prediction: Winter Whirlwind (Maybe) ❄️

The Farmers’ Almanac—known for predictions that range from "kind of right" to "way off"—is calling for a "Wet Winter Whirlwind" in the Philly area. They’re forecasting rapid-fire storms, with rain, sleet, and snow likely to keep us on our toes. The real kicker? A frigid Arctic blast late January. While the Almanac claims a 64% success rate, it might be wise to prepare for anything—because, as we know, winter in Delco always has a few surprises up its sleeve!

Schuylkill River’s New Attraction: Walk on Water with FloatLab🚶‍♀️

Philly’s Schuylkill River is getting a seriously cool new addition: FloatLab. Set to open in summer 2026, this 75-foot-wide structure will let you walk right out onto the river, offering epic skyline views, fishing spots, art galleries, and even a floating classroom. It’s a collaboration between Mural Arts Philadelphia and Bartram’s Garden, blending art and education with a splash of engineering. Philly’s riverfront just got a major upgrade!

Havertown’s Own: Roy Gillian and the End of Wonderland Pier 🎢

You may have heard that Gillian’s Wonderland Pier is closing after nearly a century, but did you know the pier’s founder, Roy Gillian, who just passed away, had roots in Havertown? Gillian grew up in Delco and graduated from Haverford High before leaving his mark on Ocean City. He founded the iconic Wonderland Pier in 1965, shaping countless family memories along the Jersey Shore. His passing comes just a week after announcing that Wonderland Pier will close after this season, ending a 94-year family legacy that’s been a staple of summer memories.

Essington’s Romano’s Stromboli has won the 2024 “Flavored by Philly” contest with its Special Hot Stromboli chips. As the inventor of the stromboli, Romano’s has now transformed their classic into a winning snack, thanks to Herr’s. This third-generation family business snagged the top prize, adding another accolade to their 80-year legacy. It’s a victory that’s as spicy as their stromboli itself!

Azie on Main Says Goodbye 🍣

After 15 years serving Asian fusion delights in Villanova, Azie on Main is closing ($$) its doors on September 22nd. The landlord’s decision to convert the space into offices has prompted the closure, leaving fans of the popular Main Line spot disappointed. Win Hospitality, the restaurant’s owner, is exploring relocation options, so stay tuned. For now, you’ve got until September to savor one last meal at this Villanova favorite. Note: You can also dine at Azie on Main at their Media location.

Now Open in Swarthmore - Kaycee Conallen Design, LLC 🏠 Congrats to Kaycee Conallen Design on their official grand opening yesterday!
